SWAGGERING Scheme star Marvin Baird walks free from jail yesterday clutching his worldly goods — and vowed to woo back beloved ex Dayna McLaughlan. Marvin, 32, was released after eight months in Kilmarnock nick for swiping mail from a postbox.
The recovering heroin addict looked a picture of health as he stepped out with two bags of his possessions.
It was a far cry from the spaced-out junkie who shot to fame in TV docusoap The Scheme, which followed locals from Kilmarnock’s Onthank estate. But while he was behind bars, co-star and ex-lover Dayna 21, — who had a lesbian fling the last time he was inside — barely visited him.
And as he admitted he still pines for her, he moaned: “She let me down by not visiting much. You could count her visits on one hand. I think she has gone behind my back so there’s a trust issue now too.
“But I’m happy to show her that being with me is better than any woman.”
Dayna McLaughlan Marvin, who claims he had “a laugh” in prison, made yet another pledge to stay on the straight and narrow.
He’s put on two stones and swears he took NO drugs inside.
He said: “I’m just going to take it easy and stay with my family. I’ve missed my grandpa especially — and my mum and sister. I’ve put on a lot of weight and got fit playing table tennis. I was offered plenty of drugs but I wasn’t interested.
“A college wants me to go in and speak to young ones to discourage them from using drugs.”
Marvin shared a cell with troubled cousin Chris Cunningham who was also on The Scheme.
He was locked up after causing £30,000 of damage when he drove his mum’s car into a Bentley.
Now Marvin fears Chris will struggle without him after his newborn son died in May.
Marvin admitted: “We shared a cell so it was good because I could look after him. He’s been depressed and having panic attacks.”
Where's the Bairds?
MARVIN reckons he was deluged with saucy propositions from the opposite sex while he was banged up.
He said: “You should have seen all the fan mail saying, ‘I want to meet up with you’ — about 80 separate letters. One in Stockport wants me to move down there and share a cottage. Another one is a fitness instructor from Muirend in Glasgow.
“She told me Dayna wasn’t good enough for me. One of the lassies sent a picture of her wearing a negligée.”
