Daniel crime clan were not involved in Loch Lomond explosion, police say
Dec 5 2010 Exclusive by Russell Findlay, Sunday Mail
POLICE have ruled out fears that the Daniel crime clan were behind last month's explosion at Loch Lomond.
Underworld sources claim the gang are linked to the mystery blast in Garadhban Forest near Gartocharn in Dunbartonshire.
One source said: "The first and only names being mentioned in connection with this explosion are the Daniel family.
"They spend a lot of time in Rowardennan which is just up the road from the woods and they are more than capable of plotting a bombing."
The Daniel mob were linked to the theft of guns and explosives from an Army barracks in Kent two years ago.
Earlier this year, they twice firebombed Glasgow's Maryhill police station in a bid to destroy a seized vehicle linked to murdered enforcer Kevin "The Gerbil" Carroll.
Four years ago, they torched a secure police compound in a botched attempt to destroy a getaway car used in a gangland murder.
The explosion sparked a probe involving MI5, the Met Police, Strathclyde Police and Royal Navy bomb experts over fears it was the work of an al-Qaeda terror cell.
Two weeks ago, Detective Chief Superintendent John Mitchell said: "Strathclyde Police have not declared this to be a terrorist incident.
"We will not be forced into making any such pronouncement until we have investigated all possibilities."
Last night, a police source denied claims the Daniel gang were being probed over the incident.
